Playing 1080p Videos

To play 1080p videos with Roksbox, the Roku player needs to know the resolution and frame rate of the video.Since the Roku video player doesn't read the information from the file, you need to supply the information.Without this information, Roksbox will not properly play 1080p video.

There are four ways to supply the resolution and frame rate information to Roksbox.Depending on how you have your media and Roksbox set up, you can choose one of the following methods to supply the necessary information.

1.If you are using nfo files with ThumbGen, the information needed should already be in the nfo files, and you probably don't need to do anything. The ThumbGen nfo files contain the tags <resolution></resolution>, and <framerate></framerate>.The resolution and frame rate for each video should be inside these tags.If for some reason it isn't, you can edit the nfo file and put it in yourself.Use the following guidelines for entering the information:

resolution - You can use either 1080p, or the WidthxHeight of your video.

Ex. <resolution>1080p</resolution>, or <resolution>1920x1080</resolution>

framerate - This should be the actual frame rate of the video. This is usually 23.97, 24, 29.97, or 30.

Ex. <framerate>24</framerate>

2.If you are using a single xml file generated from Personal Video Database (PVD), the information needed should already be in the xml file, and you probably don't need to do anything. The xml file generated from PVD contains the tags <resolution></resolution>, and <framerate></framerate>.The resolution and frame rate for each video should be inside these tags.If for some reason it isn't, you can edit the xml file and put it in yourself.Use the following guidelines for entering the information:

resolution - You can use either 1080p, or the WidthxHeight of your video.

Ex. <resolution>1080p</resolution>, or <resolution>1920x1080</resolution>

framerate - This should be the actual frame rate of the video. This is usually 23.97, 24, 29.97, or 30.

Ex. <framerate>24</framerate>

3.If you are creating individual xml files, you can specify the resolution and frame rate in each xml file.Use the tags <resolution></resolution>, and <framerate></framerate>.Use the following guidelines for entering the information:

resolution - You can use either 1080p, or the WidthxHeight of your video.

Ex. <resolution>1080p</resolution>, or <resolution>1920x1080</resolution>

framerate - This should be the actual frame rate of the video. This is usually 23.97, 24, 29.97, or 30.

Ex. <framerate>24</framerate>

4.If you are not using nfo or xml files, then you must specify the resolution and frame rate settings within the file name. For the resolution, put "1080p" (without the quotes) anywhere within the filename. For the frame rate, put "xxfps" (without the quotes), where xx is the frame rate. The frame rate must be either 24, or 30.If the actual frame rate is 23.97, use 24.If the actual frame rate is 29.97, use 30.If you don't specify a frame rate, it will default to 30.

NOTE:

You also need to have your Roku player Video setting at 1080p, and your TV must be able to play 1080p videos.
