Google Drive Setup

If your media files are already on Google Drive in a Roku compatible format, you can continue with the installation below. Otherwise, you should read the following articles, and prepare your media files to play on Roku according to these recommendations.

Express Setup


Select the Roksbox channel from your Roku menu. If you haven't already set up a device or service, you will be taken to the Roksbox setup wizard automatically. In this case, skip to step 3 in the instructions below. Otherwise, start with step 1.

  1. From the Roksbox Main Menu, select Options, then select My Options.
  2. From the My Options menu, select Setup Wizard.
  3. From the Setup Wizard menu, select Google Drive.
  4. Read the information screen, then select Continue.
  5. On the next screen you will need to authorize your Google Drive account to allow Roksbox to access it. Follow the instructions on the screen, being careful to type everything exactly the way it appears on the screen. Once you have successfully given authorization to your Google Drive account, select Next on the Setup Wizard screen to continue.
  6. If the authorization was successfull, you will see your Google Drive user name on the next screen. Select Continue to Next Option to continue.
  7. Select the default on each of the setup screens by selecting Continue to Next Option.
  8. When done with the setup screens, exit back to the main menu by pressing the left or up arrow buttons on the remote.
  9. That's it, done. You can now begin playing the media you configured by selecting the appropriate menu option from the Main Menu.

Standard Setup


Select the Roksbox channel from your Roku menu. If you haven't already set up a device or service, you will be taken to the Roksbox setup wizard automatically. In this case, skip to step 3 in the instructions below. Otherwise, start with step 1.

  1. From the Roksbox Main Menu, select Options, then select My Options.
  2. From the My Options menu, select Setup Wizard.
  3. From the Setup Wizard menu, select Google Drive.
  4. Read the information screen, then select Continue.
  5. On the next screen you will need to authorize your Google Drive account to allow Roksbox to access it. Follow the instructions on the screen, being careful to type everything exactly the way it appears on the screen. Once you have successfully given authorization to your Google Drive account, select Next on the Setup Wizard screen to continue.
  6. If the authorization was successfull, you will see your Google Drive user name on the next screen. Select Continue to Next Option to continue.
  7. If you have videos that you want to stream, Roksbox will need to know where they are located in your Google Drive account. Roksbox will ask if you want the Setup Wizard to search for your video folder. You can select Yes to have Roksbox search for your video folder, or you can select No, and manually enter the path to your video folder. It is recommended to allow Roksbox to search for your folder. Select Yes to begin the search, or select No to manually enter your video path.
  8. Once your video folder path has been identified, select Continue to Next Option to continue with the Setup Wizard.
  9. The next screen will ask for a video XML file name. For directory structure usage, you don't need to enter an XML file name. If you want to use an XML file, and are familiar with how Roksbox uses XML files, enter the XML file name here, otherwise select Continue to Next Option. You can also see the Advanced Features section for information on using XML files.
  10. Roksbox can display your videos in a standard poster style screen with the main categories or genres across the top of the screen, and the posters in an arced-portrait style below, or it can display them in a 2-row by 5-column grid style layout. For videos, the grid layout is recommended. Select Continue to Next Option to select the default grid style layout, or select Change Video Screen Style to change to the standard poster style layout.
  11. If you have music that you want to stream, Roksbox will need to know where your music files are located in your Google Drive account. Roksbox will ask if you want the Setup Wizard to search for your music folder. You can select Yes to have Roksbox search for your music folder, or you can select No, and manually enter the path to your music folder. It is recommended to allow Roksbox to search for your folder. Select Yes to begin the search, or select No to manually enter your music path.
  12. Once your music folder path has been identified, select Continue to Next Option to continue with the Setup Wizard.
  13. The next screen will ask for a music XML file name. For directory structure usage, you don't need to enter an XML file name. If you want to use an XML file, and are familiar with how Roksbox uses XML files, enter the XML file name here, otherwise select Continue to Next Option. You can also see the Advanced Features section for information on using XML files.
  14. Roksbox can display your music in a standard poster style screen with the artists across the top of the screen, and the albums in an arced-square style below, or it can display them in a 3-row by 7-column grid style layout. For music, the standard poster style layout is recommended. Select Continue to Next Option to select the default poster style layout, or select Change Music Screen Style to change to the grid style layout.
  15. If you have photos that you want to display as a slideshow, Roksbox will need to know where your photos are located in your Google Drive account. Roksbox will ask if you want the Setup Wizard to search for your photo folder. You can select Yes to have Roksbox search for your photo folder, or you can select No, and manually enter the path to your photo folder. It is recommended to allow Roksbox to search for your folder. Select Yes to begin the search, or select No to manually enter your photo path.
  16. Once your photo folder path has been identified, select Continue to Next Option to continue with the Setup Wizard.
  17. The next screen will ask for a photo XML file name. For directory structure usage, you don't need to enter an XML file name. If you want to use an XML file, and are familiar with how Roksbox uses XML files, enter the XML file name here, otherwise select Continue to Next Option. You can also see the Advanced Features section for information on using XML files.
  18. Roksbox can display your photos in a standard poster style screen with the photo folders across the top of the screen, and the subfolders in an arced-landscape style below, or it can display them in a 3-row by 5-column grid style layout. For photos, the standard poster style layout is recommended. Select Continue to Next Option to select the default poster style layout, or select Change Photo Screen Style to change to the grid style layout.

This completes the standard setup of your Dropbox account. Press the left or up arrow buttons on your remote until you return to the Main Menu. You can now begin playing the media you configured by selecting the appropriate menu option from the Main Menu.
